Nick is my first out of state customer. After much (3 weeks) of deliberation and finding out exactly what style and tone he wanted to get out of his hand built guitar, I decided on a 7k Alnico 2 humbucker with 42awg heavy formvar wire (My heavy vintage series) and a 10k Alnico 5 with 43awg polyurethane wire (a lower output version of my SHO series). Here's his exact words regarding his custom hand wound, wax potted and nickel covered TDM Pickups :)
"it sounds great. Just overdriving my amp with the neck alnico 2 pickup, makes the best creamiest overdrive. It sounds great. Plus if you back off the volume a little, it'll give a real smooth blues/jazz tone that has really good string response. The bridge pickup is fairly versatile too. With both on, it covers all the bases of sound. Rolling off the tone really gives the sound i wanted to achieve, it's pretty damned sweet. The bridge pickup alone, can be rolled off to give a smoother almost neck pickup ish sound, or have a ton of bite and just angry. Oh, and the harmonics are clear, and sound so great."
Nick's Hand built guitar with TDM Pickups... great job man! Glad I could be part of this build :)
